Sweet or savory kopytka — which version will you choose? Discover real comfort food in the heart of Gdańsk
There are certain dishes that instantly transport us back to the carefree days of childhood, lift our spirits, and provide a sense of homey warmth. In the culinary world, we call them "comfort food." In Poland, at the top of this honorable list for generations, stand "kopytka" (Polish potato dumplings). At Pikawa Bistro in Gdańsk's Old Town, we decided to take this traditional classic and pair it with rich, signature sauces. It's up to you whether you eat them sweet today, or in a rich, savory version!
The secret to perfect kopytka lies in tradition
Before we move on to our signature compositions, it is worth considering what the phenomenon of these small dumplings is all about. Perfect kopytka must be perfectly balanced – the right proportion of potatoes, flour, and egg makes them incredibly delicate. At Pikawa Bistro (at 16 Piwna Street), we prepare them with the utmost care. Our goal was to create dumplings that literally melt in your mouth, providing a perfect base for expressive additions.
Because we know our Guests have different tastes and culinary moods, we have divided our menu into two powerful factions: a savory feast for lovers of hearty flavors and sweet nostalgia for those looking for a bit of gentleness.
A savory feast – four faces of pleasure
If you are looking for an idea for an extremely filling dinner after a long walk through the streets of the Main Town, savory kopytka are a hit. In our menu, you will find four rich, meat and vegetarian compositions:
- 1. Kopytka a'la Carbonara
This is a nod to Italian classics, but in a Polish, dumpling edition. We wrap delicate kopytka in a velvety sauce based on cream, egg yolk, and Grana Padano cheese, with the addition of white wine. The whole is broken by expressive, smoked bacon, garlic, onion, and fresh parsley. It is a dish that you cannot pass by indifferently. - 2. With grilled chicken in cheese sauce
A proposal for fans of milder, but equally deep flavors. We serve kopytka in a thick Grana Padano cheese sauce, accompanied by juicy pieces of grilled chicken, mushrooms, and baby spinach. Roasted garlic and a hint of white wine add aroma. - 3. Pork meatballs with a hint of marjoram and garlic
Looking for something very traditional and warming? You will surely fall in love with our variation with pork meatballs. Their expressive taste (spiced up with marjoram and garlic) perfectly harmonizes with our signature smoked tomato sauce and crispy bacon. It's a dinner that will satisfy everyone! - 4. In cream sauce with gorgonzola and baby spinach
We do not forget about lovers of meatless cuisine! Our vegetarian proposal is a real explosion of taste. The characteristic, slightly spicy gorgonzola meets here with the sweetness of sun-dried tomatoes, the delicacy of zucchini, and the freshness of baby spinach. The aroma of white wine and garlic perfectly binds this composition into a coherent whole.
A sweet return to childhood
And what if we told you that dinner can taste like the most beautiful memory of holidays at grandma's? For fans of culinary arts in a "sweet" edition, we have prepared an absolutely unique item.
We serve our sweet kopytka wrapped in country cream flavored with real vanilla. To this, we add a refreshing, slightly tart raspberry mousse, fresh fruit, and – obligatorily – a generous sprinkle of powdered sugar. It is a dish that is equally popular among the youngest Guests of Pikawa Bistro as it is among adults who want to give themselves a culinary treat.
What are you in the mood for today?
Choosing between sweet and savory is rarely simple. Fortunately, Pikawa Bistro is located in the very center of Gdańsk, so you can always come back to us the next day to try the other option! Regardless of whether you choose smoked bacon and smoked tomato sauce, or vanilla cream with raspberries – we guarantee that our homemade kopytka will improve your mood.
Sit at a table on Piwna Street, order a glass of good wine or a regional beer, and surrender to the pleasure of eating real comfort food.
